Review: The Broken by Casey Kelleher.

My Rating: 5 stars….as always!

Genre: Crime Fiction- Mystery/Thriller/Suspense

Published: 2/22/18

Print Length: 322 pages

They took her dad, but she won’t let them take her.

Nancy Byrne was the apple of her daddy’s eye. He might have been one of the most-feared gangsters in London, yet Jimmy Byrne idolised his little Nancy. But now Jimmy is dead, gunned down in cold blood – and Nancy vows to avenge his death.

She’s only twenty years old, but as the new head of the ruthless Byrne gang, running a lucrative world of drugs, sex and violence, she’s in over her head. Keeping her family together all while Joanie, her beloved grandma, falls apart, and her brother Daniel goes off the rails forces Nancy to grow up – fast.

But while Nancy takes the men on at their own game, there’s a greater danger hiding on the dark streets. Jimmy’s killer is on her trail – and will stop at nothing to shut her up.

Blood might be thicker than water, but soon, Nancy realises she can’t trust anyone. Not even her own family.

Especially her own family.

I’m a HUGE fan of Casey Kelleher, so I got really excited when I found out she was writing The Broken! Before you read The Broken, you need to read the first book, The Betrayed. This is the first time she has written a follow up to one of her books. All the others are stand-alone.

I discovered Casey last year & I have read every one of her books. The stories are fast-paced and filled with suspense. Before I dive into my review, here are all of her books up to date…not in order. Some of these books are also free with Kindle Unlimited! While I have loved every book, Rotten to the Core has been my favorite so far!

My Review

The first chapter of The Broken is nail-biting and packed with suspense. Casey doesn’t waste any time and that’s what I love about her writing style. Her books always keep me on the edge of my seat, craving more! She has a way of making the readers feel so connected to her characters. I feel like I am right there in the book!

As I was reading the book, I found myself thinking back to The Betrayed a lot. I wish I had re-read it before I started The Broken. It’s been a while since I read it and I felt like I had forgotten some of the key elements. If it’s also been a while since you read the first book, I would recommend reading it again before starting this book. I was able to figure things out and eventually remembered what happened, but I struggled at times.

The events that happen in the book are jaw-dropping…literally. Sometimes I would read something that I totally didn’t expect and all I could do was just stare at the book for a minute…in total disbelief! When I’m reading a suspense, I loved to have those unexpected shocks & Casey definitely delivered!

Nancy is the type of woman I would want to go to war beside of, not against. The world she lives in is male-dominated, so she has to prove that she is capable of taking over the Byrne empire. I don’t want to give too much away, but I think Nancy is just as ruthless as her father, Jimmy Byrne. Nancy will do whatever it takes to keep her fathers legacy alive.

In my opinion, the most shocking part of the book is Jack. OMG! SERIOUSLY?!?! He totally threw me off! I can’t wait to see what all happens in the third book! The ending of The Broken is a cliffhanger. I will be counting down the days once Casey announces the release date!

I would definitely recommend The Broken to my book-loving friends…just remember to read The Betrayed first! And while you’re at it, just go ahead and read the rest of her books lol. You will be glad you did!

As always, thank you for taking your time to read my review!

New Release + Review: Keep Her Safe by Richard Parker. Release Date: 1/11/18!

My Rating: 4 Stars!

Genre: Psychological Thriller

Release Date: 1/11/18

Publisher: Bookouture

Print Length: 285 Pages

How far would you go to protect your child? Maggie’s daughter Penny is her whole world… and she’d do anything to protect her. So when Maggie wakes one night to find a strange woman in her home, she runs to barricade herself in her bedroom with her child. Maggie knows why she’s come…

Someone has been targeting mothers and offering them a choice: do as he says or their child disappears. This stranger in her home has until dawn to follow his orders… but Maggie too has the ‘choice’ to make. Can she put the pieces together to stop the cycle before her time is up?

An edge-of-your-seat thriller that will keep you turning the pages. Perfect for fans of Adam Croft and Rachel Abbott.

Disclaimer: I was provided an ARC by Netgalley and Bookouture in exchange for my honest review.

I am not a mother, but I am very close to my niece and very protective of her. I would like to think I would do whatever was necessary to protect her, even if it meant killing someone else. Keep Her Safe was a thought-provoking thriller that had me questioning everything about myself.

The story starts out fast-paced and action-packed. The author doesn’t waste any time. From the beginning, the cat and mouse game began. I’m trying to word this review in a way that it won’t spoil anything for you. There are so many intense situations in the book, it will leave your heart pounding and eager to turn the page!

Keep Her Safe has an abundance of uncertainty throughout the book. Will Maggie do the unthinkable to keep her child from being put in further danger, or will she try to stop this madness? Holly, the woman sent on this mission, also has her struggle of self-doubt. Is she the type of person who would be able to go through with her instructions?

Would you kill for your child if you were in the same situation as Maggie and Holly? Before you automatically answer that question, read Keep Her Safe. You may end up surprising yourself.

Overall, I loved the book. However, I feel like the ending of the book was lacking the same type of action and thrill as the beginning and middle of the book. I still enjoyed the ending, but I would have expected something more shocking. This is the only reason I didn’t give Keep Her Safe 5 stars.

I believe this book is worth reading for yourself. I would recommend it to my thriller/suspense book friends!

Hope you enjoy my review!

Happy Reading!

Review: Once Lured (a Riley Paige Mystery #4), Blake Pierce.

My Rating: 4 Stars

Genre: Thriller/suspense

Publication Date: 8/2/2016

Length: 230 pages

Women are turning up dead on a lone stretch of highway in Delaware. Some go missing for an inexplicable length of time, while others are turning up dead, their bodies left out for display in bizarre and mysterious ways. When a pattern is discovered, it becomes clear to the FBI that a twisted serial killer is on the hunt—luring girls in devious schemes—and that he won’t stop killing, ever.

The FBI, desperate to crack the case, urges Special Agent Riley Paige to take it on. But the brilliant Riley, still reeling from past cases, has finally found peace in her home life, and is determined to help her daughter April get back on her feet. Yet when the murders become too disturbing, too urgent—and when her former partner Bill implores her—Riley finally realizes she can’t say no.

Riley’s hunt leads her deep into the unsettling world of hitchhikers, of drifters, of women that no one else cares for. When she discovers that several women are being kept alive and that there is still time to save them, she realizes she will stop at nothing, obsessing over the case and driving herself to the brink. Yet Riley realizes her own life is falling apart, and her own fragile psyche can barely handle the strain. In a frantic race against time, she will have to plunge deep into the killer’s mind to save these women—and to save herself—from collapse.

A dark psychological thriller with heart-pounding suspense, ONCE LURED is book #4 in a riveting new series—with a beloved new character—that will leave you turning pages late into the night.

My Review:

I LOVE the Riley Paige Mystery Series! Each book is so creative. I am especially fond of books with serial killers…I know I’m weird lol! Each book in this series has a serial killer…score!

What I like most about this series is that the stories are original. I can definitely say I’ve never read about the type of serial killers he writes about. Very creative! I’m always shocked and cringing!

I also LOVE Special Agent Riley Paige! I love books with a strong female special agent character. She isn’t afraid to stand up for her victims and do what she believes is the best to save them! She will risk her badge to do whats right.

I will have to say that I cannot stand Special Agent in Charge Carl Walder! I wanted to just reach into the book & smack him. I realize he needs to be in the book to cause conflict, but that doesn’t mean I have to like him!

Riley struggles with trying to be a mother & an FBI agent. Each book in the series shows the struggles she & April face. Riley battles this each day..wondering if she is doing the right things for April. I’m looking forward to reading more about their relationship.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good thriller!

REVIEW: Bury Me by Tara Sivec.

My Rating: 4 Stars

Genre: Suspense/Thriller/Mystery

Publication Date: 8-8-2015

Length: 286 pages

I hear screams in my head. I see blood on my hands. When I look in the mirror I see a stranger.

How is it that I can remember bits and pieces of my life, but nothing of any importance and nothing that makes any sense? Everything is twisted and nothing is right. I’m choking with every breath I take, suffocating on the unknown. Two days ago, everything changed. Two days ago, the people I should trust the most became strangers in my convoluted head. The dreams I have can’t be real. The fleeting memories that whisper through my mind are scary and wrong…they have to be. If they aren’t, I have something much worse to fear than my fractured mind. I need to find out the truth, even if it destroys me. I’ve been told my name is Ravenna Duskin. I’m eighteen years old and I live in a prison…

My Review:

My favorite thrillers are ones that keep me guessing & on edge until the end. That is exactly what Tara Sivec does in Bury Me! I would think I was finally starting to figure it out & then she would surprise me! The ending of Bury Me was literally jaw-dropping. I was like “what?!?!” I wasn’t expecting that ending at all!

I would recommend Bury Me to anyone who enjoys a dark, suspenseful thriller that just blows your mind! I will definitely purchase another thriller by Tara if she releases one in the future.
