Sick bitch

Out of my fucking head.

I’m not broken.

I’m just a little damaged.

I’m stronger now, stronger than I ever knew.

And it’s all because of him.

This is only the beginning but I already know how it’s going to end.

I’ll be claiming my throne and they’ll be buried in the dirt.

Out of my fucking mind

We both know how it’s all going to end.

The blood we shed will stain our hands.

There’s not a warning out there that could prepare anyone for this.

*Deviants is book two in the Badlands series and will conclude Romero and Cali’s story.

You can read my review of the 1st book in the Badlands Series, Savages, by clicking HERE!

Congrats to Natalie Bennett for the recent release of her new book, Deviants! I devoured Savages, the first book in the series, in one night. The ending had a HUGE cliffhanger, so I was counting down the days until I could find out what happened!

Deviants was everything I hoped it would be and more! This book is seriously gruesome, just like Savages. If you have a weak stomach, you may want to pass this book up. I found myself cringing so many times, but I just can’t get enough of Romero & Cali! The sex scenes are also intense and crazy, to say the least!

Romero and Cali’s relationship isn’t something most people would dream of, but I envy how protective he is of his queen. They have a strange relationship, but it works for them. He makes it known that she is his and he is hers.

Romero is fiercely protective of what’s his, but so is Cali…she will do more than just scratch your eyes out if you try to come between her and her man. Don’t underestimate her. She is the craziest female character I’ve ever read about. Romero + Cali= Beautiful Disaster!

I love books that keep me in suspense and Deviants definitely did just that! So many things happened that I did not expect at all. I didn’t want Deviants to end…BUT I’m so excited for the 3rd Badlands book, Outcasts, to come out on May 12th! I can’t wait to find out Arlen’s story…this should be interesting!!!!

I buried my body beneath the covers and curled around his warmth. With my head rested just where he’d wanted it, I closed my eyes tight and willed the tears away. Doing my best to hide the emptiness consuming me, I concentrated on breathing evenly.
“Always loved you right like this,” he confessed. “Your body so close to mine it feels like we’re the same person.”
I took deep breaths as I thought of all the reasons life was so damn unfair.
“Loved burying my face in your hair, just breathing you in.”
Those were the words most girls dreamed of hearing, and they made our love feel more solid and concrete. But hearing them now was like a slow form of torture, because they were tearing the small amount of control I had left in me to pieces.
“You were made just for me, Sawyer Cooper,” he whispered sleepily. “I truly believe that.”
I squeeze my eyes shut tighter as I curled into him closer.
“Forever my girl.”
Tears rolled along my cheeks as I did all I could to wipe them away before he noticed. I was thankful sleep had taken him over and he was oblivious to the shattering of my soul.

My Review

Congrats to C. A. Harms on the release of Don’t Be Afraid! This is the first book I’ve read by her and I can definetly see myself reading more of her books in the future.

I will give you a warning ahead of time that this second chance romance will bring you to tears and have you yelling “whyyyyyy????”

Don’t Be Afraid reminded me of how precious life is and how your entire life can be altered in a heartbeat. As Sawyer and Patrick learned, life is not always fair. I couldn’t image having to face the things they did.

I seriously struggled with this book. I wasn’t sure at times if I could actually finish it. My emotions were everywhere and my heart hurt so bad. Not every part of the book was sad though. There were times I found myself laughing and my heart feeling full. I was reminded to live my life to the fullest every single day!

This book absolutely earns 5 stars from me!

Thank you for taking your time to read my review!

Author Bio
An English teacher, an author, and a fan of anything pink
and/or glittery, Lindsay’s the English teacher cliché; she loves cats, reading,
Shakespeare, and Poe.
She currently lives in her hometown with her husband, Chad (her junior high
sweetheart); their cats, Arya, Amelia, Alice, Marjorie, and Bob; and their
mastiff, Henry.Lindsay’s goal with her writing is to show the power of love and the beauty of
life while also instilling a true sense of realism in her work. Some reviewers
have noted that her books are not the “typical romance.” With her novels coming
from a place of honesty, Lindsay examines the difficult questions, looks at the
tough emotions, and paints the pictures that are sometimes difficult to look
at. She wants her fiction to resonate with readers as realistic, poetic, and
powerful. Lindsay wants women readers to be able to say, “I see myself in that
novel.” She wants to speak to the modern woman’s experience while also bringing
a twist of something new and exciting. Her aim is for readers to say, “That
could happen,” or “I feel like the characters are real.” That’s how she knows
she’s done her job.Lindsay’s hope is that by becoming a published author, she can inspire some of
her students and other aspiring writers to pursue their own passions. She wants
them to see that any dream can be attained and publishing a novel isn’t out of
the realm of possibility.

My Rating: 5 Stars!
First off, congrats Lindsay Detwiler on this beautiful book! Lindsay is another new author I have discovered and I’m looking forward to reading more of her books soon! I’m a sucker for a beautiful romance story and she seems to have plenty of those. I’m definitely a fan now!
In Lindsay’s bio, it says she is known for realism in her writing. I found this very refreshing. I felt such a connection to Marley, because I also have issues with opening up to love. I don’t like to expose myself to the possibility of getting hurt. I have had a lot of hard times and I come with baggage too, so I understood why she felt like she did.
My heart broke for Marley when she thought she wasn’t good enough for Alex. Marley and Alex are from two different worlds. Marley has been held back by the tragedies that have occurred in her life and she thinks less of herself because of it. Can Alex convince her that she is more than good enough for him? Can Marley also help Alex discover more about himself?
Marley and Alex are two Amazing people. I enjoyed reading this beautiful story. I don’t typically read books twice, but I can see myself reading this again at some point. All of You gave me hope that maybe there is a chance that I will meet someone like Alex one day. Someone that can be my rock and I can also be his. I would definitely recommend this book!

We are all attracted to the forbidden, addicted to the rush we get from reading
something naughty. We love to lose ourselves in the fantasy. The powerful lord

Once again, I discovered another AMAZING author on my book blogging journey! Zoe Blake is definitely going to be one of my favorites when I’m in the mood for a REALLY dark romance!

I will agree with the authors warning above. Dark Deception is very dirty and dark, which is totally fine with me, but it may not be for others. If you aren’t ok with pushing your boundaries and going in with an open mind, you just need to grab another book. I had to stop reading a few times because even I got worked up a little 😉

With that being said…

This book was everything I love in a dark romance and more! Paine is an alpha male in every sense of the word. This story had me intrigued from the beginning. The book starts off with Mirage trying to kill Paine, as the synopsis states. That’s when the excitement begins!

I loved the dynamic between Mirage and Paine. Mirage is the type of woman who will fight to the end, no matter what her punishment will be and Paine is the type of man who will willingly dish it out. They make a dangerously sexy duo.

I was on edge the whole time, not knowing what Paine and Mirage would do next and I loved every minute of it!

If you love a dirty, sexy dark romance, go grab your copy of Dark Deception!

New Release + Review! The Silent Room by Mari Hannah.

My Rating:

Genre: Thriller

Release Date: 1/16/18!

Publisher: Minotaur Books

Print Length: 417 pages

Detective Sergeant Matthew Ryan wants to clear the name of his former boss, who stands accused of official corruption. But before he can do so, his boss disappears. Did he escape from police custody, or was he kidnapped? Or did something even worse happen to him?

The Silent Room has everything a good thriller should have—compelling characters, a gripping plot and storyline, superb pacing, and a strong sense of place. In addition it has heart, something many thrillers sorely lack. Add some truly scary villains, vast uncertainty about whom to trust, and a loudly ticking clock, and we have ourselves a thriller that will grip readers from the first pages and never let go.

Disclaimer: I was provided an ARC from NetGalley & Minotaur Books in exchange for my honest review.

I have discovered so many amazing authors in the last few months. It’s one of the many perks of being a book blogger!  I was thrilled when I got the email from NetGalley letting me know I was going to receive a copy of The Silent Room to read and review.  I will definitely read more books by Mari Hannah in the future!

The first thing I want to discuss is the dialect. The dialect is a little different than it is in America. Sometimes I had a hard time understanding what the characters were talking about. I had no idea what a lay-by was, but I had to remind myself to focus on the most important parts of the book. Once I did that, I was able to keep up the pace.

The dialect had absolutely no impact on my rating. Just FYI…a lay-by is an area on the side of the road where vehicles can stop. Where I’m from, it’s called an emergency lane. Knowing what a lay-by was made no impact on the story. If you don’t understand what something is, don’t get caught up on it, just move along and you will be fine.

The Silent Room was a thought-provoking thriller. What if someone you loved or was very close to was accused of a serious crime they claim they didn’t commit? Would you believe them, even if the evidence showed otherwise? Would you risk your life and job to clear their name? What would you do?

Most people would like to say they would help, but when things start to get messy and their own lives are at risk, they may not feel the same way. Luckily, Detective Inspector Jack Fenwick has Detective Sergent Matthew Ryan, Grace Ellis and Frank Newman working on his behalf to uncover the truth. Will they find Jack in enough time? Will they discover the truth before its too late? What will happen in this fast-paced, action-packed thriller?

I guess you will have to get your copy of The Silent Room to find out! I don’t want to give away too many details! There are so many twists and turns in this book and it’s filled with surprises that left me completely shocked! I want you to be able to experience the same thing!

If you love a heart-racing, page-turning, thought-provoking thriller, you will love The Silent Room!

Thank you for taking your time to read my review!

Review: Once Pined (A Riley Paige Mystery #6) by Blake Pierce.

My Rating: 3.5 Stars!

Genre: Thriller/Mystery

Published: 12/16/2016

Print Length: 212 Pages

Men and women are turning up dead in the outskirts of Seattle, poisoned by a mysterious chemical. When a pattern is discovered and it becomes clear that a twisted serial killer is on the hunt, the FBI calls in their best asset: Special Agent Riley Paige. Riley is urged to return to the line of duty—but Riley, still reeling from the attacks on her family, is loath to return. Yet as bodies mount, and the murders become more inexplicable, Riley knows she has no choice.

The case takes Riley deep into the unsettling world of nursing homes, of hospitals, of drifting caretakers and psychotic patients. As Riley delves deeper into the mind of the murderer, she realizes she is hunting the most terrifying killer of all: one whose madness knows no depths—and yet who may just appear shockingly ordinary.

A dark psychological thriller with heart-pounding suspense, ONCE PINED is book #6 in a riveting new series—with a beloved new character—that will leave you turning pages late into the night.

As you can see, I just finished the 6th book in the series. I’m a HUGE fan of Blake Pierce! He is one of my favorite thriller authors. There are a total of 12 books in the series.  I’m glad there’s 12 because I can’t seem to get enough of FBI Agent Riley Paige!

As much as I have loved the previous 5 books, the 6th book was lacking some creativity. The serial killers in the previous books have left me speechless, but that didn’t happen with Once Pinned.

However, I was still intrigued and the story was still action-packed and I enjoyed it. I was relieved that Agent Carl Walder wasn’t in this book…he was beginning to wear me down. The only reason I gave Once Pinned 3.5 stars is due to the lack of creativity.

I will still continue to read the Riley Paige Mystery Series!

New Release + Review: Keep Her Safe by Richard Parker. Release Date: 1/11/18!

My Rating: 4 Stars!

Genre: Psychological Thriller

Release Date: 1/11/18

Publisher: Bookouture

Print Length: 285 Pages

How far would you go to protect your child? Maggie’s daughter Penny is her whole world… and she’d do anything to protect her. So when Maggie wakes one night to find a strange woman in her home, she runs to barricade herself in her bedroom with her child. Maggie knows why she’s come…

Someone has been targeting mothers and offering them a choice: do as he says or their child disappears. This stranger in her home has until dawn to follow his orders… but Maggie too has the ‘choice’ to make. Can she put the pieces together to stop the cycle before her time is up?

An edge-of-your-seat thriller that will keep you turning the pages. Perfect for fans of Adam Croft and Rachel Abbott.

Disclaimer: I was provided an ARC by Netgalley and Bookouture in exchange for my honest review.

I am not a mother, but I am very close to my niece and very protective of her. I would like to think I would do whatever was necessary to protect her, even if it meant killing someone else. Keep Her Safe was a thought-provoking thriller that had me questioning everything about myself.

The story starts out fast-paced and action-packed. The author doesn’t waste any time. From the beginning, the cat and mouse game began. I’m trying to word this review in a way that it won’t spoil anything for you. There are so many intense situations in the book, it will leave your heart pounding and eager to turn the page!

Keep Her Safe has an abundance of uncertainty throughout the book. Will Maggie do the unthinkable to keep her child from being put in further danger, or will she try to stop this madness? Holly, the woman sent on this mission, also has her struggle of self-doubt. Is she the type of person who would be able to go through with her instructions?

Would you kill for your child if you were in the same situation as Maggie and Holly? Before you automatically answer that question, read Keep Her Safe. You may end up surprising yourself.

Overall, I loved the book. However, I feel like the ending of the book was lacking the same type of action and thrill as the beginning and middle of the book. I still enjoyed the ending, but I would have expected something more shocking. This is the only reason I didn’t give Keep Her Safe 5 stars.

I believe this book is worth reading for yourself. I would recommend it to my thriller/suspense book friends!

Hope you enjoy my review!

Happy Reading!
